How to Install a Pre-Hung Door with Frame
- Measure the width and height of the rough opening. Re-check the label on the side of the carton containing the door and frame and make sure you did get the right one.
- Next, if you will need to adjust the door for clearance to allow for carpeting or tile, then trim the door accordingly. Use masking tape along the line you mark on the door. This will help you protect it from scratches and splintering along the cut line.
- Place the door frame into the rough opening and check its fit. Here you can use low expansion foam or shims (whatever the homeowner prefers).
- Use the level to check for plumb. Once you are sure it’s plumb and the door swings freely, go ahead and use the Framer’s nail gun and secure the door frame in place. You can also use screws or a hammer and nails at an alternative option.
- The final step is to install trim around the door frame. This hides the gaps and shims giving it that clean professional appearance.
That’s all it takes to
have a new Pre-Hung Door and Frame!
