By: Walter Sanderson

Common mistakes:

  1. Selection of the wrong size of sink.
  2. Selection of the wrong style according to your specific needs.
  3. Selection of the wrong hardware.
  4. Selection of the wrong style of fixture(s).
  5. Attempting to cut out the sink hole without knowledge or proper tools.
  6. Failure to know when it is time to call in a professional.

Materials Required:

Plumbers putty
Mounting hardware
Silicone sealant (optional)
Denatured alcohol

Tools Required:

Hi-torque drill with a diamond bit
Clamps
Hammer or rubber mallet
Screwdriver(s)

Special Note: If using slab granite or marble, it is recommended to have a professional cut out the sink hole using the template that came with your specific sink.

Installation Procedures

  1. Prior to starting, make sure you have everything you need to finish this project.
  2. Start by placing a 2x4 across the countertop.
  3. Clamp the sink to the underside and adjust the sink’s placement. Thread the wing nuts onto the screw heads.
  4. Temporarily install your sink to test its fit and to allow you to mark the location for the supplied mounting clips.
  5. Remove the sink and drill 1/4" holes for the brass inserts and tap them in.
  6. Clean the cut out edges with denatured alcohol.
  7. Apply plumber’s putty around the edges of the sink. As an alternative, you can use silicone sealant.
  8. Re-install the sink and clamp into place.
  9. Thread the wing nuts onto screw heads and HAND tighten to anchor the inserts.
  10. Remove the clamps and place masking tape across the back of the countertop and mark the positioning for the faucet holes.
  11. Drill the holes using a 1-1/4" drill bit.
  12. Allow it to cure for at least 24 hours prior to installing any plumbing.

Your new undermount sink is functional, convenient, and adds beauty to your kitchen!
